Yesterday’s loss comes down to one major issue that continues to be a problem for Dallas… Pass Defense. I know the running game was a no show yesterday but at least Marion and Julius have proved this season the running game can work and work well.
The pass defense has yet to show me anything, last season and this season. Unless it improves soon teams will continue to pick the Cowboys apart.

I just got done with my 5pm report on tabloid magazines becoming more and more focused on politics, or should I say, the polititicans. And I noted that millions of Americans view the tabloid headlines while standing “on line” in the grocery store. Well this is the comment I recieved from an NBC5 viewer just moments after my live shot:
Just finished listening to your report on the 5 p.m. Wednesday news.
Nobody outside of Manhattan, N.Y., stands “on line.” Normal people stand in line. Unless there is a line drawn on the sidewalk, then, maybe, you stand “on a line.”
Hope this is helpful. Envy your golf game.
Well I don’t know if he or she knew this… but I am from Manhatten, grow up just 20 miles north of the Big Apple and lived on the West Side, for nearly 6 years! And yes, I say standing “on line” and I don’t say “Ya’ll” and I never bothered to correct anyone who does.
All kidding aside the viewer does raise a valid point, but since I am a New Yorker, and stubborn, I’m sticking with I hate standing “ON LINE” at the grocery store.
(To the viewer, I thank you for coming to Grant’s Rant to post! and please post any time!)

Barrack Obama may be one of the greatest speech givers our nation has ever seen. From an oratorical stand point, he knows how to draw a crowd in and connect with those watching him. How many people besides, The Jonas Brothers could fill a football stadium with adoring, captivated fans.
Though last night’s speech was well written there are a few jabs that may have bought Obama a fight. Last night Obama said, “John McCain likes to say that he’ll follow bin Laden to the Gates of Hell – but he won’t even go to the cave where he lives.” Just as Republicans can acknowledge Obama’s true desire to make life better for his followers, Democrats can acknowledge McCain’s true desire to keep this country safe. At the Lakewood Theater that comment even drew a hushed cringe from the crowd. I can only imagine what it drew from John McCain.
Barrack Obama may have just poked a sleeping lion. I can’t see John McCain take a comment like that sitting down.
I think what we witnessed last night was history, but it was also a look into the future. This Presidential battle is going to turn into an old fashioned slug fest where only one candidate will be left standing, the other may be destroyed. It’s any one’s race to win or lose.

Well we knew it would happen, and yes I am late on reporting the news, but Jessica Simpson finally made her trip to visit Tony at Cowboys Camp in Oxnard. She apparently had jaws dropping, just not my secret agents jaws dropping, Sam and CJ missed the whole thing.
You can see the Pics courtesy of the Gossip Girls, click it here.
I would have gotten to this earlier but I am involved in covering this Crypto outbreak in North Texas. Though we all secretly realize more people care about Tony and Jessica then Cryptosporidium, I still have an image to uphold that I am a real news man.

I am pleased to announce, Grant’s Rant has been getting some terrific publicity lately.
- The Dallas Observer’s Unfair Park Blog apparently got a kick out of my “Death of the Rhyme” post. (See Below)
- T.V. Critic Ed Bark usually hates everything I do, but he did give credit to Grant’s Rant last week, check out his blog post on Uncle Barky.
- And even ESPN Radio’s Dale Hansen, who throws around compliments like manhole covers, did compliment me on his radio show for being one of the few reporters to ask Tony Romo about the Jessica Simpson situation. I blogged about how Tony was not happy with me right here on Grant’s Rant.

Yesterday I was “slow creep’n” down I-35 with NBC5 Photojournalist Quincy Thomas, AKA Q-Pac. We both have a favorite XM radio channel called “The Rhyme.” It’s Ole’ School rap from guys like Big Daddy Cane, Run DMC, Cool Mo Dee and the list goes on. For some reason, I love the stuff, the beats, the scratches but especially the rhymes. I’ll do the “Humpty Dance” all night long.
Sitting there in rush hour traffic got me thinking, why don’t rappers rhyme anymore? There’s no more, “put your hands in the air, like you just don’t care” lyrics. The Fat Boys, The Beastie Boys, Run DMC and the boys all had more rhymes then Picasso had paint, they were so smooth they’d make you faint.
Is it creative laziness? Or is the Hip Hop community simply rhymed out? Are all the rhyming combinations really used up? The death of the rhyme is all to real.
I know there are more combos out there, and I don’t mean meals. If I can bust a rhyme so should the rappers of tomorrow.
“I’m G-Stinch of the Six O’clock hour, uncovering the news is my power. I hold the mic like a gun firing facts at you… Who can rap the news? Me… That’s who!”

A British tabloid is reporting that a secret 25 minute sex tape of Jessica Simpson and her ex-husband Nick Lachey has leaked out and could hit the Internet serves within days. Jessica is insisting no such tape exists, I tend to believe her.
The problem is it is one more distraction, Tony Romo doesn’t need. Imagine your girlfriend is forced to fight rumors about a sex tape that shows her in the middle of all kind of Pam Anderson activities. I would imagine it would upset you too, just as it would upset Tony.
If there is any truth to the Internet Rumor that is now spreading like a California wildfire, my team of Romo-Simpson agents will get to the bottom of it.

I have long contended that many politicians are misguided fools. They go into public service as well educated, sharp young men and women but leave as dumb as a box of rocks. I am not sure why this is, but it seems to work for both democrats and republicans alike.
The latest form of idiocracy comes in the form of a no fried food mandate at the Democratic National Convention. A so called, “No Fry Zone.” I agree fried anything is not healthy, but grown men and women should be allowed to decide for themselves what to eat. Beyond that, there is another issue the democrats failed to think of before making the absurd decision to ban fried foods from the festivities.
The south has typically been ruled by two things, the republicans and fried food. With all the hard work Barrack Obama has put into courting southern voters, why ostracize them now? Southerners love their heart attacks on a plate. There is fried: okra, potatoes, steak, chicken, catfish, even fried Twinkies.
With the National Conventions nearly upon us, I now declare, “Let the Silliness Begin!”

Hambone made his mark tonight. What a show he put on in Yankee Stadium. He may not have won the Home Run Derby, but he clearly was the best home run hitter out there.
The best part of Josh Hamilton’s performance was not the 500 foot bombs he hit, 35 in all, it was his attitude. I don’t think there is a major leaguer who is as excited and thankful for his career in the big leagues as Hamilton is. Josh first grabbed my attention after hitting that game winning home run off K-Rod last week. Hambone was so happy, he couldn’t even speak. It was like watching a little leaguer’s enthusiasm in a big league uniform.
Go Josh! I wish you all the success in the wold. If you stay humble, you could become my first favorite ball player that is a non-Yankee, maybe.

People who want to eat healthy often turn to yogurt. It has all kinds of healthy attributes. Yogurt can be low in fat and it can aid in digestion. But why would anyone eat yogurt with Candy in it? That’s like dipping celery in chocolate or eating grilled fish smothered in cheese.
Check out the Yo Crunch Yogurt I found in my frig today.

Breyers labeled it “Low-Fat Yogurt” but then packaged it with Nestle Crunch bar bits. Another “Low-Fat” yogurt option from Breyers comes with Oreo Cookie bites. Let me make one thing perfectly clear. The yogurt is good for you, the chocolate cookie and candy bar bits are not.
Why bother eating the yogurt with all the crap in it. Why not just go ahead and eat the candy bar instead?
My wife is the one who bought the desert style yogurt sweet tooth treats. She simply said, “it looked so good!” I agree it looks tasty, but those toppings are better in a milk shake, which is almost exactly what you will be eating when you dump the chocolate bits into your yogurt.
So my question is this: Is Breyers really tricking people into thinking they are eating healthy, when all the are eating is a fancy malted milk ball shake?
And note to Breyers: Don’t label your Yo-Crunch “Low-Fat Yogurt”, when you know everyone is going to dump the chocolate treats into it. If they weren’t, they would just by the regular yogurt. And in case you were wondering this so-called “low fat” treat actually contains 210 calories, 40 which come from fat.
